Remaining Hopeful During Uncertain Times

Are you in a season wondering how or if you’re going to make it through? The circumstances of your current reality may look bleak and cause you to lose faith. Your miracle will come after you learn how to master those moments. As you contend for your breakthrough, use these three ways to remain hopeful during uncertain times.

Have relentless faith.

I’ve been through several things that tried to shake me. Dealing with grief, foolish unprovoked drama in multiple areas of my life, and career pivots was a lot to endure. I tried to psychoanalyze those crazy happenings but couldn’t make sense of it all. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;” Although I don't understand everything that goes on in my life, I have faith in whatever God is doing. I've come too far to lose my faith. In 2017, the Lord performed a miracle that shifted my faith forever. Since then, my faith hasn't wavered whatsoever because my relationship with God has caused me to not question Him. He’s favored me with high moments and carried me through the low ones countless times. The longevity of our covenant helps me to be steadfast in my beliefs so there’s no reason to wonder if He's going to come through. It has already been established.

Don't let your faith fluctuate.

Situations are going to rise that will test your faith. When you feel like there is more against you than for you, that is when you need to draw closer to the Lord. The devil’s clever tactics will tempt you to question if God is really going to deliver you out of your situation. This is an opportune time to reflect on previous situations God has brought you out of. If He did it before, then He can do it again! Remember, you have history with God and He has a plan. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11. Don’t stop believing!!

Don’t let fear overtake you.

Over the past year, I’ve been exploring uncharted territories by traveling to places and doing things people I know have not. Although people are supportive of my endeavors, being on this road less traveled essentially means I’m figuring things out on my own without a blueprint. Sometimes it can feel a little scary as I deal with uncertainty, but I quickly snap out of it by reminding myself that fear doesn’t live here! Rather than letting fear overtake me, I reframe my mindset of imagining things going well and trusting that God will supply the provision for where He’s taking me.

Stop feeding your fear and start fueling your faith.

Fear is a sneaky enemy that creeps up on you to diminish your faith and confidence. Its main purpose is to cripple you so that you won’t pursue or receive what God has for you. According to 2 Timothy 1:7, God did not give us the spirit of fear. Instead, He gave us love, power, strength, peace, comfort, and a sound mind. It’s empowering to know that God has so much for us than what the devil tries to steal. Fear can be overbearing, but it can’t outweigh God’s power.

Fear and faith can’t live together. Either walk by faith or be confined by fear.

Be optimistic.

When facing a multitude of problems simultaneously, being optimistic is sometimes easier said than done. Fear and doubt create a grey cloud that hovers over casting darkness and putting you in bondage. The good news of the gospel is that you don’t have to be bound in that low place! John 8:12 says, “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”” In order to get delivered, you have to make the conscious decision to follow Jesus. He is the way that gives you life. Let no negativity impact your walk with Christ so that He may shine His face upon you and be gracious to you.

One thing that helps me stay lifted is having something to look forward to. Whether it’s a trip, paycheck, beauty appointment, or social outing, I get a boost of excitement knowing something pleasurable is in the near future. It’s nice to be able to take my mind off my troubles and enjoy the moment.

Reminding yourself of past mistakes or dwelling on unpleasant present day conditions does more harm than good. In these moments, you have to remember where your hope comes from. Romans 15:13 encourages, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Appreciate all that you have and anticipate what’s to come with gladness. There is still so much ahead.

At any moment, you can go from waiting for a miracle to receiving the manifestation of it.

Declare this: “Lord, help me to maintain gratitude with where I currently am while believing You for what’s next.

Do not get discouraged while facing uncertainty. A difficult season doesn't define your destiny. God has already determined your victory. He’ll provide the clarity and direction to see you through. Having relentless faith, not letting fear overtake you, and being optimistic unceasingly are valiant ways to remain hopeful during uncertain times. Sooner or later, things will get better. Be encouraged.

Written with grace,

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? If not, say this prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus,

Come into my life. I accept You as my Lord and personal Savior. I believe in my heart that You died and rose from the dead to save me. Thank You, Lord, for saving me in Jesus' name. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, then congratulations! All of your sins are now forgiven and you have been born again. Heaven is rejoicing!
